ScreenSafer/400

What is it?
ScreenSafer/400 is System/i based work-station security software that operates on inactive work-stations to protect sensitive information and transactions against a range of misuse from the casually curious to the malicious abuser, hackers and embezzlers.

Developed by Sentinex Inc.
Marketed by Kisco Information Systems.
Why is it needed?

Many auditors are requiring that work-stations be 'signed-off' or 'disconnected' when they are idle for a period of time. The problem with the 'sign-off' option is that files may be partially locked for update and therefore signing off could corrupt the data-base files.

Similarly, 'disconnect' gives the appearance of 'sign-off' and therefore the work-station user may forget that they were in the middle of a transaction and go home causing the same data-base locking as 'sign-off'.

Isn't the System/i security enough?

ScreenSafer/400 does not 'sign-off', 'disconnect ' or 'hold' the work station job. What ScreenSafer/400 does is

  • provides a higher level of security not provided by the operating system

  • takes control of the station job and animates the contents of the screen

  • makes it obvious that the work station is still active

  • avoids corruption of files which may occur with an enforced sign-off or record locking disconnect

  • enforced universal adherence to all work stations, not a voluntary compliance

  • integrates seamlessly with the OS/400 operating system

No need to remember another password:  The authorized user can reactive the work-station session by pressing the "Enter" key and then entering their existing System/i password.
